Fiat 147: el pionero en la era de los autos a etanol
El 5 de julio de 1979, Fiat Brasil marcó un hito en la industria automotriz con el lanzamiento del Fiat 147, el primer vehículo producido en serie en el mundo impulsado por etanol. Apodado cariñosamente «Cachacinha» por el aroma particular que desprendía su escape, este modelo se convirtió en símbolo de innovación y avance hacia una movilidad más sustentable.
Un legado de innovación y eficiencia
El Fiat 147, además de ser el primer auto con motor a etanol, presentó características pioneras como el motor transversal, columna de dirección retráctil, y el uso de neumáticos radiales y parabrisas de cristal laminado. Esta innovación no solo transformó el mercado brasileño, sino que posicionó al etanol como un combustible clave en la reducción de emisiones, alineado con el programa ProÁlcool, lanzado en 1975 por el gobierno de Brasil para fomentar el uso de energías alternativas.
La ruta al éxito
La historia del Fiat 147 a etanol comenzó en el Salón del Automóvil de São Paulo de 1976, cuando Fiat presentó un prototipo con tecnología de etanol. En 1978, la marca sometió al modelo a una prueba definitiva: un recorrido de 12 días y 6,800 kilómetros por diversas regiones de Brasil, con condiciones climáticas adversas y una media de 500 kilómetros diarios. Este viaje exitoso allanó el camino para el lanzamiento oficial del Fiat 147 a etanol en 1979.
Impacto en la descarbonización y movilidad sostenible
Alexandre Aquino, vicepresidente de Fiat Sudamérica, destaca que el Fiat 147 dejó un legado imborrable y contribuyó a establecer el etanol como combustible clave en la descarbonización. Hoy, esta innovación sigue viva en la tecnología de motorización flexible, presente en la mayoría de los autos ligeros de Brasil.
